We are at mile 0 of the Alcan highway. That means the cold weather is behind us as well as the extreme gas prices and the rough two lane roads. I am amazed at the team that has come together for this trip. We have young adults that are a joy to travel with. I have spent a lot of my time laughing. We also have a logistics team that is doing a great job. Our daughter and her family are in a vehicle that goes about two hours ahead of us to find the ideal campsites and get supper ready for when we arrive. If they had not been along we would have ran into some serious campsite issues since we arrive late in the day and other travelers get the campsites early. They reserve us some good spots.
We also have Victor and his wife Dawn. Victor fizxes our mechanical and electrical issues while they are small and is available as chief mechanic if the problems get more complicated. Dawn is the photographer for the trip and you can see her work on the blog site.
Amanda is from Mountain Village and is a certified teacher. Her encouragement goes a long way through the day as she rides in the van and keeps everyone on track at the campsites. She is also the person who knows where all the food is packed so we can eat.
Lenna, the nurse and Josh the paramedic have our backs in case of an emergency or the common cold.
Silky and Martin, from Galena, keep their van laughing as well as do a great job at relating to everyone. They are a treat to have as drivers and friends.
Josh’s wife, Karen, is a dentist and tells us interesting things about our teeth as well as is available if we have a tooth problem.
Many of the young adults are taking on leadership roles in our daily activities.
We have seen a lot of animals. About a hundred buffalo, 100 mountain sheep, dozens of bears, lots of moose, and several deer as well as lots of birds. One vehicle also saw a linx.
We are starting to enter the hot country. We hope to cross the border into Montana on the 23rd or 24th. We will call home as soon as we get to a place in Montana with cell coverage.
Enjoy the pictures!!!!!!!!!!!
